Our Approach to Diabetes and Prediabetes
Managing blood sugar levels can be confusing and overwhelming, especially with so much contradictory information available online.
At Culina Health, our team of registered dietitian nutritionists and certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCES) is here to help.
We’ll guide you in understanding how to monitor your blood sugar and identify patterns that affect glucose control, and we will work closely with your doctor to integrate your nutrition care plan with your medical regimen.
We are set apart by our commitment to providing a personalized and sustainable plan for blood sugar management that integrates nutrition, physical activity, and stress management. You receive the support you need to integrate new habits and routines, helping you to achieve long-term success.
Your dietitian will cover topics including understanding and optimizing macronutrients, carbohydrate quality, meal content and timing, how to use exercise and movement to optimize blood sugar, sleep habits and stress levels, blood sugar monitoring, and medication monitoring.

How often should I see a registered dietitian?
Everyone’s timeline looks different when they enter into nutrition care. Factors like past medical history, relationship with food, long-term goals, and your insurance coverage or membership preferences all impact how frequently you should see your registered dietitian.
Most of our patients benefit from:
- Sessions every 1-2 weeks for the first 1-3 months in care.
- Some patients prefer to continue with sessions every 1-2 weeks after 3 months of care, while others may be ready to graduate to sessions every 1-3 months.
- Once you achieve your long term goals, it can be helpful to check in with your RD every 6-12 months.
For patients experiencing gestational diabetes, you should meet with your RD:
- Weekly for at least 2-4 weeks to start.
- Then, every 2-3 weeks for the duration of your pregnancy.
Your RD will work with you to identify the best cadence to meet your individual needs.
