Our Approach to Eating Disorders

Nutrition plays a crucial role in enhancing mental and physical well-being, but it is important to recognize that over-fixating on food and our bodies can work against our health rather than for it.

At Culina Health, we understand that eating disorders do not discriminate.

Individuals of any weight, body size, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing may be impacted by eating disorders and disordered eating.

That's why our eating disorder registered dietitian nutritionists adopt a health-at-every-size perspective, focused on helping you cultivate a more balanced relationship with food and your body.

As part of our collaborative care approach, we work closely with your care team to provide comprehensive support for your mental and physical health. And we always recommend a higher level of care if you need it.

How often should I see a registered dietitian?

Everyone’s timeline looks different when they enter into nutrition care. Factors like past medical history, relationship with food, long-term goals, and your insurance coverage or membership preferences all impact how frequently you should see your registered dietitian.

For patients experiencing eating disorders, we recommend weekly or biweekly sessions depending on the severity of your symptoms. Your RD will work with you to identify the best cadence to meet your individual needs.

What our patients say

"My dietitian makes me feel like a rock star, like I can handle the goals I’m setting for myself in a mindful way.”

With many obstacles I’ve hurdled over in the past couple of years and many more transitions ahead, I finally feel a bit more at peace with my food, my health, and my overall sense of happiness.

"Thank you for teaching me what it means to be truly nourished.”

When I initially started with my dietitian, I believed recovering from an eating disorder involved being bullied and shamed by a nutritionist into eating what was "right." Her warmth, empathy, and sense of humor have allowed me to develop a new understanding of food and nutrition, one that comes from a place of care instead of a place of punishment. She has expanded my worldview and allowed me to accept myself as I am, body, mind, and spirit.
