Chandra credits her interest in food science to growing up in a small Midwestern farm community where farm-to-table was a way of life. After heading to college and falling off the health wagon, Chandra’s desire to have more energy, sleep better, and stay healthy motivated her to adopt healthier habits. Her interest in optimizing health through lifestyle modification – specifically diet – led her to pursue a Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics. As a registered dietitian, she is passionate about helping others prevent disease and manage chronic health conditions.
Favorite cultural dish or comfort food: Anything with cheese in it, on it or around it.
Go-to morning beverage: Black coffee
Sleep ritual I never forget: Consciously practicing gratitude every day has improved my mental health and sleep quality.
What’s one small thing someone can do today to work toward a balanced eating pattern/lifestyle? Try to find ways to eat more vegetables. Veggies are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber while being low in calories. Consider adding a side salad with lunch or dinner, adding vegetables to an omelet or sandwich, or snacking on raw veggies with hummus or tzatziki dip. Diets rich in vegetables can improve digestion, keep our appetite in check, and also help lower our risk of chronic disease!
