About Carissa

I have always been interested in the field of health and wellness. I grew up playing sports and went on to be a college athlete. It wasn’t until I lost my sister in my 20s that I decided to pursue nutrition as career. I wanted to take that energy and channel it by helping others. I often wonder what could have been different for my sister if I was equipped with the knowledge that I have now.

So many people are comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to empower people with the knowledge that they can feel good. I am passionate about letting people know that in an uncontrollable world there are still so many things we can control through health and wellness. I love preaching that small changes over time WILL lead to big changes.

I have experience with individuals from a clinical setting to developmentally disabled, and everything in-between. No matter who you are, I always got you.

Go-to morning beverage: Coffee with a splash of half and half – can’t function without it.

Favorite thing to purchase at the farmer’s market: I love farmer’s market carrots – so flavorful and when dipped in hummus- my heart is happy!

Sleep ritual I never forget: Magnesium has been a game changer for me.

What I listen to for inspiration: Music – all different kinds depending on the mood

Favorite recipe: I don’t tend to follow recipes, just throw ingredients and flavors into your dish and voila!

Favorite nutrient-packed snack: Cottage cheese and tomatoes sprinkled with salt and pepper

Grocery shopping tip: Keep it simple

What’s one small thing someone can do today to work toward a balanced eating pattern/lifestyle? Commit to a healthier lifestyle. Change your mindset and the rest will come. You got this!

A habit you swear by: Movement of any kind. Just move! This can be a 5 -10 min walk in the morning and then again in the afternoon. People think they have to sweat in a gym for an hour to see the benefits. Anything is better than nothing. Movement works wonders on both physical and mental health. I promise – just do it!

What’s your nutrition superpower? Being flexible.

Nutrition myth or trend you find particularly annoying and would like to set the record straight: Can people stop cutting carbs already? I haven’t met a person yet who is happy without bread.
