Culina Health registered dietitian Lizzie Odvarka, MS, RDN was born and raised in Massachusetts. She grew up in a multicultural household (Thai and Czech). When counseling, Lizzie strongly believes it is essential to regularly incorporate cultural foods, even if they aren't as nutrient-dense. Everyone has a different eating pattern that is influenced by their cultural heritage, and it is important that it is highlighted, not discouraged.

Lizzie has worked in a variety of settings, including a level 1 trauma center and long-term care. She is a detail-oriented person and likes using this skill to collaborate with patients to find creative solutions to achieve their nutrition goals. Lizzie holds a Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Promotion from Simmons University, and completed her dietetic internship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Lizzie’s favorite cultural dish is thai tom yum noodle soup, and she loves to choose a fun new food to try on every grocery shopping trip.

Why does a registered dietitian need to be licensed in my state for virtual appointments?

Since registered dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy to patients, they must abide by the licensure laws of the state in which they are practicing. If a registered dietitian is located in a different state than their patient, the patient’s state is considered the practice location (even if sessions are held online).
