We Know New York

Culina Health registered dietitians have a special connection to New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area, starting with our co-founders who earned their degrees from New York University, Fordham University, and Hunter College, and went on to work in some of the city's busiest hospitals. We partner with trusted New York-based medical practices including One Medical and New York Gastroenterology Associates to provide nutrition care for a diverse range of patients and health conditions, and we make regular appearances in New York-based media to share our expert nutrition advice, including the Today Show and the New York Times.

Most importantly, we understand the unique lifestyle enjoyed by New Yorkers. In a city with some of the best food (and food choices!) in the world, it’s important to slow down and enjoy the nourishing effects of great nutrition. Whether you eat your meals on-the-go, savor dinner at midnight, meal prep in a shoe box, or store literal shoe boxes in your oven, we get it and we have your back. Our personalized nutrition care will help you live your best life in your city, on your schedule.
Culina Health Registered Dietitian Melissa Alazraki was working in the New York City art world when she realized she needed a career change. The lightbulb went on when she came across the Clinical Nutrition program at New York University, realizing this career would encompass her two passions—food and counseling. More than fifteen years later, she still feels that spark.

Prior to joining Culina Health, Melissa worked in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, most recently using her extensive diabetes knowledge to improve her patient’s outcomes through nutrition and lifestyle modifications at NYU Langone Health.

Melissa employs a warm, empowering, weight-neutral counseling style. She has a MS in Clinical Nutrition from New York University, and completed her dietetic internship at NYU and New York Methodist Hospital. Her speciality areas include pre-diabetes, diabetes, gestational diabetes, and cardiovascular health.

Raised as a child of immigrants in the borough of Queens in New York City, Phoo Ektheerachaisakul learned early on about the ways food unites us, teaches us about who we are, and has a strong cultural influence on our lives. He strongly believes that our eating habits affect every facet of our health, and with proper guidance, we can optimize our nutrition to improve our quality of life and longevity. He is devoted to providing evidenced-based, patient-centered nutrition care for all those in need to reach their lifestyle goals while continuing to celebrate their individual food cultures.

Phoo has cultivated his knowledge and expertise in medical nutrition therapy in various hospital systems throughout New York City, such as Lenox Hill Hospital, Jamaica Hospital Center, Kings County Hospital, and more. He maintains a strong network of clinicians and medical experts throughout the city.

FAQs

What can a registered dietitian licensed in my state help me with?

Culina Health registered dietitians specialize in all areas of wellness including general healthy eating, eating disorders, and chronic disease prevention and treatment. Our patients frequently come to us for support with sustainable weight loss, GI and digestive health issues, heart disease and cardiovascular health, diabetes prevention and management, and conditions caused by hormonal dysregulation.

How do I find a registered dietitian licensed in my state who can work with me?

We’re so glad you asked. Book your first session to share a little bit more about your health needs and counseling preferences, and we will match you with a registered dietitian licensed to practice in your state. You can also browse all of our registered dietitians.

Why does a registered dietitian need to be licensed in my state for virtual appointments?

Since registered dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy to patients, they must abide by the licensure laws of the state in which they are practicing. If a registered dietitian is located in a different state than their patient, the patient’s state is considered the practice location (even if sessions are held online). We will help you find a registered dietitian nutritionist licensed to provide virtual care near you.

I’m a registered dietitian and I’m interested in joining Culina Health. How do I get started?
