About Leah

My passion in nutrition began at an early age and I always knew I wanted to be in a position to help people feel better and improve their health. I currently have 18 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian and have provided individualized nutrition counseling as well as group nutrition education. I am passionate about the power that nutrition can play in both the management and even reversal of chronic conditions. I love working alongside my patients to help them feel better, improve their health, have more energy and to maintain a positive relationship with food!

What’s one small thing someone can do today to work toward a balanced eating pattern/lifestyle? Making small incremental changes is key when working on developing a more balanced lifestyle or eating pattern. Pick 1-2 small things you can do each day to improve your health and work from there. It could be as simple as drinking 5 extra ounces of water or walking for 5 minutes after lunch.

A mindful eating moment you had recently: Pausing during my meal to check in to see where my hunger level was and honoring what my body told me.

A habit you swear by: Start each day by fueling your body with breakfast

How has your cultural culinary heritage shaped your approach to nutrition, and do you incorporate any traditional practices into your counseling? Growing up food was a centerpiece at all family gatherings and especially around holidays. Food is tied to emotion and memories. When working my patients, I make sure to gather information about their individual food related experiences growing up and learn how this has shaped their feelings toward food today. We work together to ensure their favorite and traditional foods are included in their eating pattern.

Nutrition philosophy in a nutshell: I meet my patients exactly where they are on your journey to improve their health and will provide the support and encouragement needed to help them meet their nutrition-related goals. I believe in an approach to nutrition that incorporates balance, variety and moderation. I take into consideration the unique perspective of every person I work with and will help them to create a realistic and approachable plan that is right for them.

Nutrition myth or trend you find particularly annoying and would like to set the record straight: That carbohydrates are not good for you and that they need to be limited to lose weight.
