About Bari

After experiencing several personal health setbacks, I discovered the true power of nutrition to nourish not only our body but our mind. I learned that the food we give ourselves, and share with others is truly healing. In addition, the ability of nutrition to act as a driving force in creating inclusivity and a sense of community is something that I feel deeply passionate about, especially as a transgender man.

Get To Know Bari

Favorite cultural dish or comfort food: Lasagna, or really any Italian pasta dish

Go-to morning beverage: Black coffee, or if I’m headed to the gym first thing, my intra-workout drink with EAAs, Electrolytes, Glutamine and Creatine

Favorite thing to purchase at the Farmer’s Market or grocery store: Any type of freshly ground nut butter, or single-origin Greek olive oil

Sleep ritual I never forget: My white noise machine

What I listen to for inspiration: The Rich Roll or “Feel Better, Live More” Podcast

Fave Recipe: No bake protein bars with peanut butter and oats

Favorite nutrient-packed snack: Cottage cheese or greek yogurt with fresh fruit and nut butter

Fave book/TV show/movie: The entire Murder, She Wrote series!

Grocery shopping tip: Reach in the back. The closer up front the product, the sooner the expiration date.

What’s one small thing someone can do today to work toward a balanced eating pattern/lifestyle? Think less. Overthinking is the most powerful challenger to actionable behavior.

A mindful eating moment you had recently: Bringing together my fiancée’s family with mine to share Christmas Day dinner. It was a special moment of many firsts, and one I will never forget (both because of the food, and the company). It was a simple reminder of how food elicits comfort, community, love and self-care.

Nutrition philosophy in a nutshell: Fun and Focused Fueling

Nutrition myth or trend you find particularly annoying and would like to set the record straight: Fad diets are not sustainable as a whole. They may shine temporarily but hold little long-term perspective. What lasts is the kindness you show yourself through food and nourishment. Cultivating self-worth and self-love is what promotes healthy lifestyle behaviors.
