About Melissa

Melissa has been interested in nutrition for as long as she can remember. Her mother recalls Melissa reading the nutrition facts label on cereal boxes as a child. After pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology, Melissa went straight to graduate school to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). Before joining the Culina Health team, Melissa spent the majority of her career in corporate wellness, providing lectures and counseling services to employees. She has served as an Adjunct Professor for several years teaching nutrition courses and was the Director of Nutrition for a national spa chain.

Get To Know Melissa

Go-to morning beverage: Coffee with oat milk

Favorite nutrient-packed snack: Apple slices and almond butter

Grocery shopping tip: Never go shopping hungry and always go with a list so you don’t come home with missing ingredients!

What’s one small thing someone can do today to work toward a balanced eating pattern/lifestyle? Think about your meals and snacks and if they include a fruit and/or veggie, healthy carbohydrate and a protein source. If there is a missing piece, challenge yourself to add it to your plate next time.

A habit you swear by: Food journaling! It’s amazing how eye-opening it can be to track what you’re eating and drinking. It’s also a great way to stay accountable.

Nutrition philosophy in a nutshell: I believe in taking an individualized approach and working together to create goals that fit into your lifestyle. You don’t have to give up your favorite foods or spend hours in the kitchen every day in order to meet your health and wellness goals. It’s all about creating good habits that are sustainable long-term.
